This 64sqm apartment has been transformed into a veritable sunny postcard. Designer Lisa Solis has crafted an interior full of humor, where color bursts forth. This 64sqm, two-room apartment tells a story of seaside nostalgia and whimsy.

Every detail contributes to a cohesive, playful, and warm atmosphere, from the fish on the kitchen wall to the posters decorating the space. This renovation has breathed new life into the apartment, much to the delight of its owners.

A yellow kitchen opening onto a bright living room

The owners removed the partition that once separated the kitchen from the living room. This decision created a spacious living area bathed in natural light. Bright yellow adorns the lower kitchen cabinets and contrasts with the sky-blue walls. A white ceramic backsplash, designed to resemble fish scales, protects the back of the countertop, which is immaculate white. An orange glass pendant light, very 1960s in style, hangs above the round table made of engineered stone. Green chairs with light wood accents surround this inviting table.

Light streaming through the floor-to-ceiling window is subtly filtered by the sheer curtains. Green plants complement this fresh and invigorating atmosphere. The furniture combines rounded shapes and vibrant colors for a cheerful and cohesive look. This open kitchen is the natural heart of the apartment.

A living room with sky-blue stripes and seaside memories

The living room subtly extends the kitchen’s color palette. Sky-blue and white stripes run in sections along one wall. It’s a tribute to the stripes found on beach huts along the coast. The powder-blue sofa features rounded, inviting shapes. A light-wood sideboard with Scandinavian-inspired lines provides storage for everything that needs to be hidden.

A round wooden coffee table sits on the rug in front of the sofa. This wool rug is adorned with concentric blue and yellow circles, echoing the colors of the kitchen. A white Venetian blind filters the light, complementing the sheer curtains. This dual approach to light control allows you to adjust the brightness according to the desired atmosphere. The herringbone-patterned hardwood floor, common to all the main rooms, visually unifies the kitchen and living room.

A bedroom with a yellow-striped ceiling

The master bedroom surprises with its ceiling entirely striped in yellow and white. Like in the living room, these stripes immediately evoke beach umbrellas and a vacation vibe. A bright yellow headboard, also made of soft velvet, adorns the blue wall. The blue-and-yellow theme is repeated here, giving this 64-square-meter apartment a cohesive look. A blue velvet sofa placed next to the bed offers a secluded and peaceful reading nook.

The jute rug, edged with a scalloped pattern, protects the hardwood floor and feels pleasant under bare feet when stepping out of bed. A small, colorful illustration hanging on the wall above the sofa extends this light, summery atmosphere.

A bathroom and separate toilet full of whimsy

The bathroom combines glass blocks with mustard-yellow tile in the shower. The glass-block wall protects the room from splashes. A white sink, set on a natural rattan cabinet, completes the space. The towel-warming radiator was also chosen in a bright yellow.

In the separate restroom, mint green takes center stage, paired with teal-blue scale-patterned tiles. The cement tiles on the floor echo these two colors. White koi carp dance across the ceiling, lending a playful vibe to this small room that’s often overlooked in our homes.

A colourful entrance

The entryway is decorated in the same mint green as the restroom and also features the same cement tile flooring. Wooden coat hooks, arranged like a constellation, provide a place to hang hats and bags. The upholstered bench invites you to sit down and put on your shoes.

A glass door, framed in bright yellow metal, opens onto the living room and lets light filter through. This luminous passageway connects the entryway to the living area and clearly sets the tone for the style you’re about to discover. A balcony extends the apartment, featuring a green woven-rope armchair and a small table.

Our take on this decor

This apartment is both harmonious and creative. Each room develops its own identity while interacting with the neighboring spaces. Yellow, blue, and mint green flow from one room to the next, following a clear common thread. This continuity avoids the patchwork effect that’s often feared in small spaces with colorful decor.

The choice of a striped ceiling in the bedroom is bold and successful. This simple touch transforms what was initially an ordinary room into a true sensory experience. This renovation offers a valuable lesson on how to embrace color without sacrificing elegance. It reminds us that the decor of a small apartment can be just as polished as that of a larger home. What stands out here is the talent for blending whimsy and sophistication. Some might find this a bit excessive, but many will appreciate the risk-taking.

Inspiration to replicate at home

This sunny aesthetic finds a natural echo in seaside interiors. It brings to mind the villas of the French Riviera, where sky blue and bright yellow have been in harmony for decades. Fish-scale tiles, such as those from Emaux de Briare, are given a new lease on life here. All it takes is a little inspiration from an interior like this to bring that vacation vibe into your own home.
