Je ne suis pas fan en général des anciens bâtiments ecclésiastiques transformés en maisons. Je trouve qu'il y a un vécu qui me dérange, et même si les volumes sont très beaux, le passé des constructions religieuses est un frein à mon enthousiasme lorsque j'en découvre un, même très bien aménagé. Pourtant j'aime beaucoup cette ancienne chapelle baptiste convertie située dans le Kent. Construit en 1882, le bâtiment a conservé son intégrité architecturale sans être impressionnante même de l'extérieur, et a été transformée en une maison loft à la décoration vintage très réussie.
Cette ancienne chapelle est devenue un lieu au confort moderne, avec beaucoup de charme, grâce au travail de son propriétaire qui a remplacé les éléments d'origine par des apports contemporains à l'esthétique ancienne, comme pour les fenêtres à guillotine en bois. Les murs de briques ont été sablés pour leur donner un aspect brut et chaleureux. Dans un tel volume, et dans un pays comme l'Angleterre, avoir chaud à la mauvaise saison qui peut parfois se prolonger est une chose importante, et c'est un chauffage par le sol qui a été choisi ici, pour une efficacité accrue et un coût raisonnable. La cuisine de marque Neptune typiquement anglaise est ouverte sur le salon, et en fait un lieu convivial. Voici un changement de destination très réussi n'est-ce pas?
I'm not generally a fan of former church buildings turned into houses. I find that there is a lived-in feel to them that bothers me, and even though the volumes are very beautiful, the past of religious buildings is a brake on my enthusiasm when I discover one, even if it is very well fitted out. Yet I really like this converted former Baptist chapel in Kent. Built in 1882, the building has retained its architectural integrity without being impressive even from the outside, and has been transformed into a loft house with a very successful vintage decoration.
This former chapel has been transformed into a modern comfort place with a lot of charm, thanks to the work of its owner who has replaced the original elements with contemporary contributions to the old aesthetic, as for the wooden sash windows. The brick walls have been sandblasted to give them a raw and warm appearance. In such a large space, and in a country like England, keeping warm in the sometimes prolonged bad weather is important, and underfloor heating has been chosen here for increased efficiency and reasonable cost. The typically English Neptune kitchen is open to the living room, making it a convivial place. This is a very successful conversion, isn't it?
